random bits of goodness...

the view from my lunch bench today (madison square)

this is the only place i can grow plants in my house, the kitchen. aloe, jade, christmas cactus, and other plant from kevin's mom whose name i can't ever seem to remember (not in that order).
so i've kinda got a green thumb. who knew?

the moon the other nite, after karaoke at Savannah Blues.
shoop, again. i'm gettin' it down-- while makin' a complete fool of myself. gotta love it.

good times.

a little something...

to inspire and encourage all the ideas inside my head!

breakin' in the party deck!

which is not quite finished--but definitely functional!

so it's lookin' good and i can't wait to plant some shrubs, put up some hanging baskets, complete the screened-in area, and add our patio furniture hand-me-downs (score!)-- none of which kept us from having an AMAZINGly tasty time on a hot Sunday afternoon with family and friends.

kevin whipped up a low country boil, snow crab legs, and uncle tony brought a green tomato and cheese pie had made. and angie and i made (with aunt debbie's persistent guidance!) bacon-wrapped, cream-cheese stuffed jalapenos-- so ridiculoulsy good! and all of this topped off with mojitos AND ice-cold coronas.

jaime stopped by with 2 grouper he had just caught off-shore.
grilled fish just hours out of the water= delicious.

pete approves of the bench seats.

AND of cutie lilah (with kelle)...
who joined us after napping most of the time on me and kevin's bed.

so adorable.
a good sunday indeed.

finished!

ta-daaa!

another boy quilt...

done! (almost)

this is a gift for my dear friend, karen, and her adorable baby boy: Finn Irby Buxton. i say it's "almost" finished because i'm still planning to applique on a small patch in the corner with his name and birthdate handstitched on it...

he was born about 2 wks ago, so i need to get on it! i'm so excited to send it to her-- just want to put on those special finishing touches.....

blackberries!

my friend Liz (also a wonderful SCAD fibers alum) and i are getting ready to do a natural dyeing workshop coming up in July for the parents of the SCAD Summer Seminar campers. we decided that it was only right to pick our own blackberries locally (for only $3/lb!) to use for one of our dye-baths. we're also planning to use tea and onion skins-- which results in a great goldish yellow color on natural fabrics.

so we convinced our boss (this guy) to let us go and "get supplies" yesterday... which resulted in ~13 lbs of blackberries from the Bamboo Farm and Gardens here in Savannah-- so now we have plenty of berries for our dye bath AND perhaps a blackberry cobbler or some jam!

(only a fraction of the berries!)

Ayala Island...

ahhh, serenity!

kevin named this sandbar, ahem, i mean "island" after us-- as in, it's all ours. at least from time to time it is!

love this shot that becki took...

2 happy dogs indeed.

or, as i call them: spoiled rotten.

Hope....

stitched!

so this isn't a great photo, but its the best i could do (for now).

this was what i came up with for "assignment 1" of my art quilt class-- which was to hand-stitch a design and complete our very first binding.
i drew my inspiration from this-- i'd say it turned out pretty well overall.... great texture anyway.

i dont know. it is what it is. oversized potholder? convert to pillow? suggestions?

i have a love-hate relationship with hand-stitching. (but more love than hate, of course!)

perfect timing...

hello flipper!

(my crazy british pal emma took this photo when she and her girlfriend came to visit... we took the boat out and had an amazing time-- love this photo SO much since it seems i can never get my timing down just right to catch a jump.... must be the SCAD photo background. hmph!)

Yum!

kevin made me chocolate chip pancakes last week. twice.

he's a keeper.
