another one, completed (!)...

yay!

so apparently, i'm really on a kick with the "little girl" quilts. this one is crib-sized, even smaller than the other one. but i love it! i'm very pleased with how it turned out. these photos are after one wash-- i'm planning to wash it again with some fabric softener too, so it should get nice and floppy... With the free-motion quilting all over the top, it has a really great texture-- but all the stitching kinda makes it a bit stiff. nothing a little Snuggle can't help!

my "little girl" quilt top...

makes me kinda dizzy and overwhelmed, but happy!

so this is my completed "little girl" quilt top, for assignment #3 of my class. it turned out really well, i think, and i'm definitely excited at the thought of finishing it (at some point).

most of the fabrics are japanese linen cotton blends-- fabulous stuff. though i did throw in there one fabric from an old skirt of mine from loose lucys and a couple of fun fabrics from joann's. really, i was just trying to tackle the precision piecing of all the 1/2 square triangles and do something completely different for me. i wanted to create something to truly contrast the "little boy" quilt, and i think i did. yay!

my dog and my "boy" quilt...

awww!

so this is my completed "assignment 2" for my quilt class. the general concept behind the project is that we would us log cabin quilt technique and somehow incorporate it into our own quilt design. traditionally, a red square was used at the center of the log cabin design to represent the home or "hearth"-- the central part of the home. I decided to run with this, and used a tiny bit of red in this traditional way in my own quilt.
i call this my little boy quilt because, in order for kevin to accept me working on projects and assignments all the time for my class, i told him that i'm making quilts for our unborn children. (haha) If it were up to Kevin, we'd have 5 kids yesterday, so he loves the idea that I am mentally preparing myself and making quilts for our children-to-come. Ha! Stay tuned for the "little girl" quilt!
this particular quilt is also special to me because i used a couple of fabrics from my Grandma Dunn's collection, which she had sent me before she passed away in 2001. It also uses some fabric from both mine and kevin's clothing: some old jeans and corduroys... great stuff. so it's special to me. and someday, perhaps our little boy will use and love it too!

Friday, May 1

oh my, it's May!

so i skipped the entire month of april-- oops!

but now i'm back, with more energy than ever.

april was crazy busy, for some reason or another.... definitely ready for a more relaxed and beautiful May.

check out this nifty art from one of my favorite blogs: creative thursdays.

i think i must have babies on the brain, it seems i'm always ready to start buying things with a nursery in mind...... what in the world?
